SnowCals was organized by the Rotarians, Interactors and Rotaractors of the Colombo North family. Adapting to the COVID 19 situation of the country this project brought a twist to the Christmas carols that everyone was familiar with. Doing a Christmas carol eve as a virtual open mic session was a first in the history of the Colombo North family.
The one hour open mic night session was held on the 29th of December 2020 from 7.00pm onwards. Along with a few surprise performances, it was an amazing event to witness. The talented singers of the Colombo North Interact and Rotaract sang their hearts out to the tunes of Christmas.
Rotarians, Rotaractors, Interactors from around the world from Serbia, India, USA, came to enjoy the Christmas wonder together with our own fellow Rotarians, Rotaractors and Interactors.
The moderators brought back childhood memories of Christmas with their opening, “Wanna build a Snowman..?”, a famous line from the Christmas movie; Frozen. Everyone enjoys carols. But not many know the history and the purpose of it. In a creative and different manner, some fun facts regarding the history of carols were given to the audience by the moderators in a casual yet informative conversation style. Rtn. Sriyantha Senarathne who had more than 50 years of Rotary experience, was also delighted to share his insights regarding the Christmas celebrations of the RI movement in the past years and how much it has changed now.
Next, the floor was opened up for the performers. There were 7 singers who performed a total of 9 Christmas songs. The uniqueness of this open mic night was that the songs were exclusively Christmas songs. A special surprise was given by the Rotaractors and Interactors of Serbia by performing a Serbian version of Jingle Bells. After the performances the floor was opened for voluntary performances and felicitations, comments and ideas. Many appreciative comments and felicitations were given by the participating Rotaractors and Rotarians. The blissful Christmas eve, SnowCals ended with the Vote of Thanks being delivered by Rtn. PHF PP Marshad Barry from the Rotary Club of Colombo North.
SnowCals was a tremendous success with the audience being transcended to a true Christmas eve by the talented Rotractors and Interactors, for a moment making them forget that they were restricted to the dimensions of their screens.
